Way2Wellness, the free telephone support, coaching and call-back service delivered by Lifeline and funded by the Sydney North Primary Health Network, is nearly four months old. Already the service is making a positive difference, guiding and supporting people with – or at risk of – mild mental health disorders, (primarily anxiety and depression), and also in some cases their carers and family members .
Comments Service Manager Peta Jesse (pictured), “We know that depression, anxiety and stress are common in the community and in our workplaces. Most of us have had a relative, friend or colleague who at some time has found themselves in a stressful, anxiety-inducing situation that they have had difficulty managing..
“For many callers, Way2Wellness represents “someone to turn to” before the issue – or issues plural – spiral out of control. It’s all about equipping the person with the skills and tools that will help them better manage whatever it is that is impacting them.”
How does Way2Wellness work?
In essence, Way2Wellness is a specialised Telephone Coaching and Support service that assists callers to access or utilise the most appropriate online tools and local services, (including face-to-face support), that will most effectively match their particular needs. The service includes a follow-up call one week after the initial contact has been made, with the option of further follow-up calls if required.
““The benefit of the Way2Wellness service,” explains Peta Jesse, “is that it gives you some effective ways of gaining insight on how to effectively manage the issue – nipping it in the bud – before it starts to impact other parts of your life. That often means before it starts affecting the people closest to you – your family, friends and workplace colleagues.”
